New Years Eve 2008 and I was cleaning up my hard drive once again as I prepare for 2009 and my first show of the year. I found this recording from a distant life, I’m glad it’s still being played, (this was something sent to me by an American friend…strangely I was in Texas at the time, I wish I’d heard it!) one day I might even get a royalty…but I’m not holding my breath.
The wonderful sax playing is by the late, great, Ron Aspery, who I remember was an absolute joy to work with. A lovely session guy for hire, we just hummed what we wanted him to play and it took him just one take, he then studiously notated the part, just in case we ever needed it in the future. The launch party for this single, was full of the soon to be famous (which didn’t include us, it occurs to me now…) and those aspiring for greatness, all were doing lots of ‘we’re soon to be famous’ type things which I could never divulge in such a public space. It was great fun and a real education for a young, market town, boy, like me.
The years relentlessly move on…the throbbing music from the clubs around my flat fill the air, just before I joined the New Years Eve Party myself, whilst this other memory plays on my laptop…always a time to look forward, but…
