Manchester City Supporters

May 14, 2012 @ 6:01 pm

Manchester City football supporters walking along Cross Street heading towards the start of the clubs victory parade in Albert Square to celebrate them winning the Premier League.

Recorded from my 3rd floor office window.

14/5/12  @17.40

Apologies for the lack of recordings recently, a heavy workload and a nasty virus to contend with!

Manchester City FA Cup Winners Victory Parade

May 23, 2011 @ 7:55 pm

Another victory parade! This time English FA Cup winners Manchester City on a very windy evening outside the City Hall in Albert Square, Manchester

A deafening PA system blasting out music for an hour beforehand killed the atmosphere completely, the wonderful community singing usually enjoyed at events like these (like at matches) was totally drowned out and you couldn't help but feel this had a disheartening effect on people after a while. all so very needless as the fans would've made as much (and a more welcome) noise themselves.

Could do better, but anyway....

Cardiff, Bute Park

March 29, 2011 @ 6:11 pm

Walking through Bute Park, Cardiff, 4.45pm, Saturday 26th March 2011. On my way back to the hotel I was staying at from RWCMD.

The Police helicopter is patrolling the area as the Wales versus England football European Championship qualifying match draws to a close at the nearby Millennium Stadium. (England won 2-0)...I have a squeaky bag over my shoulder!

Pleasant and unpleasant sounds from things that fly...

The Start Of Spring/Football

April 1, 2009 @ 10:42 pm

A warmish day and it felt, at last, like the start of Spring.

So I get home, throw open the windows, switch on the television and settle down to watch the International Football World Cup Qualifier, England versus Ukraine, whilst checking out the latest news from the G20 meeting in London on the web.

Football coverage on ITV is generally awful, it’s something everyone seems to be united in agreeing that the BBC does infinitely better. The commentator for this match, Clive Tyldesley, must rate as the one of the most annoying men on television, sometimes he just needs to shut up and simply let the football do the talking for him, he either has an unnatural fear of dead air, or someone has cruelly and unfairly told him that he’s actually interesting, he’s certainly no expert. Gabber, witter, gabber, witter, spew complete nonsense…..Most of the ITV pundits also spout total rubbish, when given the opportunity, the worst culprit being the dire, dull, Andy Townsend, this man alone makes me thankful for the commercial breaks, which always come as a welcome respite to the continual,  often ill considered, drivel this man utters. All of this is just purely my opinion of course…and I accept that I might be wrong…not that you should ever consider searching Google to see if I’m alone with my thoughts….

Anyway, traffic, birdsong, and television….windows open…my recorder on the window sill…summer is hopefully on its way…and Tyldesley and Townsend witter on...and on...and on...and on...

UEFA Cup Final #2 (Not your average day in Manchester)

May 14, 2008 @ 8:44 pm

 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7399067.stm

100,000 Glasgow Rangers fans descend on Manchester. Final Score Rangers 0 Zenit St. Petersburg 2. Unfortunately it turned quite nasty after the game, with some rioting and violence, the mess and litter left behind was unforgivable. Despite a positive start, the event turned out to be memorable for the wrong reasons.

UEFA Cup Final #1

May 13, 2008 @ 6:05 pm

Glasgow Rangers supporters have started turning up in droves today for tomorrows UEFA Cup Final against Zenit St. Petersburg. Noisy, but so far pretty well behaved....Political songs being sung, a very different atmosphere from the Brighton Beach bar.

Prague, Kids, Football

July 12, 2007 @ 3:15 pm

Latitude 50° 6'6.78"NLongitude  14°25'42.09"E  So, I spent a few weeks in Prague armed with my recorder. What did I capture? Not much really, I ended up far too busy to even think about recording. I did try and record a journey on one of the marvellous trams…ruined by a passenger with a hacking cough. I did record some rain and storms, but I have lots of this stuff and it didn’t turn out as well as my other similar recordings. But…  One evening just before Scenofest opened I managed to get back to my apartment for a quick nap before going out to eat. As I lay in bed, eyes shut, I heard a sound that could’ve placed me virtually anywhere in the world, the sound of some kids kicking a football against a wall. This is, in my opinion a truly global sound, not influenced in any way by location or time.
