I'm not going to say what the sounds are...that would spoil the fun! But I will tell you that there isn't the sound of a shaver contained anywhere within the recording.

Is that shaving? :)

I like the idea of narrowing down a 'soundscape' focus to everyday sounds in the private sphere. Whether we think about it or not, sound is an integral part of our lives.

Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful reminiscence of the days when we used to go by train from Dover Priory to C'bury East in the mid to late 80's. Exactly the same noises.

Thanks Des and Ralf...I think the sea air must have affected me, I originally called the post the 12th August, of course it's the 2nd! I've changed the title now :-)

I'm glad it offered you some refreshment from the Parisian mugginess, although I must admit to be slightly envious of you Des!

Ralf, most of that recording was made within 400 metres of where the bulk of Quadrophenia was filmed.

Love the surf with the cobblestones. Now I'll spend the rest of the night with the opening of Quadrophenia doodling in the back of my head.

"Is it me or a moment..." :-)

I really enjoyed this piece. It's so refreshing compared to Paris which is suffocatingly muggy at the moment. I've only been to Brighton once but this piece does sum up the atmosphere perfectly for me.

Firstly, some of the plugins shown on the image are not part of Audiomulch, it's very easy to use your own VST effects with the program.

I briefly explored PureData, it gave me a headache! The problem for me is that I don't want to do too much maths when creating sound, I like my tools to be intuitive and it wasn't for me, however many swear by it (I just swore at it). If I had the time to sit down and learn PD then I'm sure it would be worthwhile, I just don't have the opportunity.

Thanks for the info.

I'm sure I saw an older version a few years ago that was free, however I see that the current version isn't. That said, from the screenshots it appears to be much nicer-looking than it used to.

Perhaps I'll try a demo. You mentioned PureData - have you had any experience with that?

It's a really lovely piece of software, very intuitive, great for live and studio work, and not difficult, far easier than Max or, PureData. I've just produced 6 tracks using it which I may release as a CD. I'm sure it's got hidden depths which I've yet to discover!

<p>Thanks Phill, certainly this Bee had a sense of narrative and a certain musical instinct...and judging by its speed and dexterity it could very well be the same creature as you saw :-)

It's wonderful to get a sense that there is a growing community of audio/naturalists and recordists beginning to really connect up around the world! Wow, imagine being able to meet so many other people who are also exploring their surroundings through soundscape recording, analysis, sharing, and art. Thanks so much for including your own personal narratives about the (r)evolution of your work, Steven. It's immensely grand to access your sound diary and learn about your reasons, your efforts, and your results in this field. Thank you for creating and sharing your listen/hear project!... it's grand. Happy Listening and Many Thanks, Kat

i love this. really builds to an intense crescendo just before the bee is released. :o)

funnily enough, i had the largest bee i've ever seen, on my carpet yesterday. a huge, furry creature. i live in the north of england, too [west yorkshire, so probably just over the hills from you]. sounds like something's happening to our bee population. first they were dying out, now we have these enormous mutants!

anyway. nice one.

Hello good evening. I already tried to send this once but it appeared to fail so if you have this twice I apologise.
I too was fascinated by the 'sounds' I heard from the short wave. As a young soldier in germany in the sixties I was often spellbound by the repeated numbers or musical blocks I heard. What brought me to your web page was my searching on Google for those very sounds, in particular the musical notes repeated over and over again. I had hoped I could find them again on the internet. They are probably no longer used.
I wonder if you are able to give me a link to where those sounds might be found on the 'net please.
It is quite gratifying to know that someone else was also fascinated by the sounds from the short wave. The old transistor radios used to always have long, medium and short waves but alas, no longer.
Best wishes.
